FROM THE SKIPPER: George Stevenson   It was another pleasant lunch with all our DESA friends. Thanks for coming. Our speaker was Warren Grossetta, a retired career Navy Captain. He was one of the "Tin Can" sailors and served aboard submarines during WWII and afterwards. He was a very interesting speaker and had a very interested audience. Congratulations to Carlos and Irene who are being Married in June. Our best wishes go with you. Be sure and make the next meeting. We have something special planned. A group of us attended Ben Hull's birthday party. It was a very nice affair. I know Ben appreciated those of us who came. Till I see you at the next meeting -- smooth sailing and God Bless. George

SECRETARY: Rosemary Stevenson October 15,2008  Southern Arizona Destroyer Escort Association Meeting was called to order at 11:30am by our Skipper, George Stevenson.  George led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Bob Mitchell led the group in the DESA Prayer.  Minutes were read by Yoeman Rosemary Stevenson. Treasurers Report was read by our Treasurer, Tom Mathewson. 50/50 was initiated by Walter Kaput. $24.00 was collected - $12.00 to the Treasury and $12.00 to the winner. $12.00 was won by Connie Mathewson who graciously donated it back to the charter. Thank you  Connie. Old Business: Christmas party will be held at our regular December 17th meeting here at the Golden Corral. Marlis, Rosemary and Dorie are already starting to work on it. Any help, suggestions or donations will be greatly appreciated. Walter Kaput shared his experiences when he attended and represented Ken at Ken Pearsons ship reunion held here in Tucson.  New Business: Slate of officers for the coming year was read to the members by Skipper, George Stevenson They are  Skipper - Lee Israelson XO - still open Yoeman - Joanne Irons Treasurer - Tom Mathewson Co Treasurer - Tom Lewis  Sunshine Lady - Dorie Libby  Program Chairman - Tom Lewis This group of officers will be voted on at our November meeting. Books will be turned over to them at the December meeting. The new officers will take over at the January meeting 2009. The meeting was turned over to our guest speaker - Tom Mathewson. Tom spent several years in Saudi Arabia He was part of the group that built a grass roots refinery there and taught the Saudies how to run it. He told of his and his family's experiences with the people and proving from first hand experiences that almost all are very appreciative of the help the USA has given them. It was a very interesting talk. We will have to have Tom share more of his experiences with us. Thanks Tom. Next meeting will be October 15 at the Golden Corral on Wetmore.
