It was another pleasant lunch with all our DESA friends. Thanks for
coming.

Our speaker was Warren Grossetta, a retired career Navy Captain. He was
one of the "Tin Can" sailors and served aboard submarines during WWII and
afterwards. He was a very interesting speaker and had a very interested
audience.

Congratulations to Carlos and Irene who are being Married in June. Our
best wishes go with you.

Be sure and make the next meeting. We have something special planned.

A group of us attended Ben Hull's birthday party. It was a very nice
affair. I know Ben appreciated those of us who came.

Till I see you at the next meeting -- smooth sailing and God Bless.

George

SEP.19, 2007

Southern Arizona Destroyer Escort Association Meeting was called to order by Skipper George Stevenson at 11:30am. The Skipper led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance and the DESA Prayer.

Minutes of the last meeting (June 20th) were read by Yoeman, Rosemary Stevenson. Treasurers report was given by Tom Mathewson. After all current bills were paid, we have $390.74 in the treasury. Both reports were accepted.

50/50 was initiated by Walter Kaput. Returns were $31.00 - $15.50 to winner and same to treasury. Mike Utter won the draw and graciously donated his share back to the treasury. Thanks Mike.

Guests were introduced: Mike Utter from the VFW chapter & John Aube - Both became new members

Old Business: It was unanimously voted to have our monthly meetings all year and not adjourn for the summer months. As discussed and decided at the board meeting, the subject of dues was explained. Dues are $12.00 per year payable on January 1 of each year. For new members it will be $1.00 per month from month joined. Thereafter, $12.00 per year payable on January 1.

Discussion of Web Site was continued. It has been decided to continue a Web site. Web Master Tom Landreth will decide which one. Tom explained the new free web site he had set up and explained to the group. how it worked. He also answered any questions anyone had. Frank Cadell asked if this would be accessible to all or would a password be needed. Will discuss this further.

New Business: Christmas party will be held on our December meeting date at the Golden Corral as we have for the past several years. Volunteers for the Christmas party were asked for - Dorie Libby, Marlis Landreth, and Rosemary Stevenson will be the committee. Any other volunteers are welcome.

Nominating Committee for next years officers: Dorie Libby will head the committee. All volunteers will be accepted. We will need a Skipper, XO and Yoeman. Need a slate of officers to present to the group at the November meeting to be voted on at the December meeting.

Bumper Stickers: DESA bumper or window stickers was discussed. George Stevenson will bring samples, price, size to next meeting.

Care Packs to Troops: Everyone was in favor of the idea. Mike Utter will bring a list of things that are really needed by our troops. Individuals can donate items or money to one central individual. Charter will donate X amount of money (amt. To be decided upon) to buy articles. Mike suggested a box or barrel placed in grocery stores with signs asking for donations for the troops. Good idea!! Will contact Bob Mitchell to see if he would take charge of this.

A poem "Are You Blessed" brought in by our web master Tom L. was read by Yoeman, Rosemary Stevenson.

Mike Utter invited all to visit the VFW on Roger between First and Stone.

Next meeting will be Wednesday October 17, 2007 at 11:30pm at the Golden Corral on Wetmore.  Meeting was adjourned at 12:30pm.
